National Transport and Safety
Authority has taken a step ahead of ensuring road safety and fighting drunk
drivers in Murang’a town. For the last three days NTSA officers mounted alcohol
blow at Total junction
and at Huhi petrol station Junction along Murang’a –
Sagana Road where motorists were forced to use alternative routes to avoid being
arrested where they only managed to get less than ten drunk drivers.
The director general of the
National Transport and Safety Authority Francis Meja has issued stun warning to
those contravening traffic rules that their licenses shall be revoked if found.
This comes a day after a fatal
accident claimed ten lives in Murang’a County.
Mr Meja raised concern over the
number of people who are risking crossing overflowing rivers and roads and
urged them to wait till the roads are clear enough to travel.
He also assured the public that
NTSA will carry out its operations during this festive season to assure safety
on the roads.
He has condemned the increased road
accidents and fatalities caused by carelessness, drunk driving, over speeding
and other road malpractices like night without proper permits.
Meja said it is very sad to see
lives being lost even after the authority having continuously asked motorists
and other road users to exercise caution especially during this rainy season
and during the festive season.
Meja warned that those found
contravening the rules would have their licenses cancelled for good unlike the
previous suspension. Meja was speaking after visiting the scene of a fatal
accident that killed 10 people in Gatundu.
