Senator Kangata feeds the poor during Covid-19 period

Muranga Senator Irungu Kangata has once again redefined the meaning of a leader through his extension of philanthropic deeds especially from the poor.

Although Senators do not have a fund like MPs, Women Representatives and Governors, the Senator has never used that fact to stay away from the ordinary people, he has been getting out of his way to cough his salary and mobilising funds from his friends to help the poor.

The Senator has started criss crossing the county in bid to feed the poor a mission that started at Gatanga, Mathioya and Kiharu Constituencies.

Next week, he will be moving to Kigumo and then Maragua, Kandara and Kangema Constituencies. 

Residents have been benefitting with bars of soap, cabbages, unga, and avocado tree seedlings as a long term solutions in the fight against hunger.

The Senator believes, a leader is known and recognized during hard times and has called other leaders to ensure that they also help the electorates by feeding them as they continue adhering to government's directive of staying home as the fight against Covid-19, is intensified. 

The Senator who has joined hands with renowned lawyer Edward Muriu of Gatanga Constituency and Gatanga Member of County Assembly Nahashon Gachuhi. The team has vowed to use their resources and influence to ensure that no person from Muranga County die of hunger.

"The best of leaders are realized in moments of crisis. As we tackle the challenges of the Corona Virus Pandemic, this is should be the time we should all strive to be leaders in our own right," The Senator told KK Online News.

On Saturday, the team halted their schedule and spent their day at Githambo tea factory where they fed the hungry and called on leaders and business class to ensure that they participate in helping the needy.

"Tea farmers have been affected by the pandemic because the curfew has interfered with their schedule of plucking tea and this will have adverse effects on their produce and then the payments, that's why we remembered them by bringing them food items," Mr Kangata said. 

On his part Wakili Muriu called on those who can afford to sponsor something to the poor to ensure they don't sleep hungry. 

He noted that some people who depend on casual labour have been dealt a major blow after government ordered for the closure of bars, hotels and other institutions where they earn a living.

" Now is the time for those of us in the business and political world to marshal ourselves and provide the poor with food. A thriving County and Country is a product of concerted efforts by all of us to wade through the murky waters of this pandemic," Mr Muriu noted. 

Mr Gachuhi said no Kenyan should suffer during this period while leaders have what it takes to feed them and thanked the Senator for mobilising them for a noble course. 

"Senator Irungu Kangata has done a wonderful thing, he continues to mobilize leaders and well wishers to ensure that Muranga people do not go hungry, if only other leaders could follow suit, we would not only be safe from hunger but free from Coronavirus since the vulnarabe could stay at home to avoid contracting the deadly virus," he noted. 

The Senator has also on the past been coordinating and arranging for the free medical camps and the latest had to be called off due following the Ministry of Health directives on shunning public gatherings.
