A boost for Kembi Gitura's Senatorial bid.

President Uhuru  with Senator Kembi Gitura at Kiriaini,Murang'a county.

President Uhuru’s visit in murang'a county boosted the political Mileages of some independent candidates where the issue concerning electing in a  'suit form' was shunned off.

Though the incumbent senator Kembi Gitura was denied a chance at Kiria-ini town to address people by Governor Mwangi Wairia , His Excellency the  president  recognized  his presence and did an  extraordinary thing  by inviting Kembi to address people himself.

Hardly had the senator taken to the podium than the crowd broke into a thunderous applause.

Was this endorsement? Time will tell.

The Senator lost the jubilee ticket to incumbent Kiharu MP,Irungu Kang'ata. The Jubilee ticket holders have been accusing their independent counterparts of double standards with some going to an extent of associating them with the opposition. This has seen the independents being bullies especially when there is a presidential visit. Ironically, the independents have pledged their support for the president and his reelection raising the question as to why the jubilee brigade would want them to keep off the presidential tour.

A recent standoff happened recently while the president and his deputy were scheduled to visit Murang'a county with a first stopover at BluePost Hotel,Thika. Irungu Kang'ata leading the Jubilee brigade demanded that the Incumbent senator and Business Tycoon Peter Kahara Munga leave as they were not welcome.

Apparently, they accused the business mogul of funding the independents in the county.

An ugly seen ensued with bitter exchange of words that led to the President skipping the stopover.

Many felt it was an embarrassment and expressed their disappointment towards Kang'ata who they felt should have behaved differently.

We talked to some who had changed allegiance and I quote them..."Kang'ata lost my Vote after that day...."

A recent case was yesterday during yet another presidential visit in mMuranga where Dr Moses Mwangi, running for the governor's seat  encountered hostility in Kangema.

According to Daily Mail......

Moses Ndungu Mwangi,  a candidate for Muranga gubernatorial seat and his team were assaulted by his opponents and his vehicle pushed to the ditch. Dr Moses as popularly known, has been a thorn in the flesh of current Murang’a governor Francis Maingi popularly known as Mwangi wa iria.

Dr Moses attended president Uhuru Kenyatta ,wherw he later embarked on meet the people tour of Nyakahura area, Iyego in Kangema. Upon arrival he was accosted by Mwangi wa Iria's ‘goons’ led by Stephen Chege also known as Habile and another one called Chege also known as Chege wa Kembi.  The goons who numbered around 20 were armed with machetes . They wanted to burn the vehicle of Dr Moses but were stopped by the Wananchi. Some supporters of Dr Moses were kidnapped during the assault but the police have already launched a manhunt in Nyakahura Iyego Kangema constituency where the incident happened.

I leave you with this food for thought.....The Jubilee candidates have no problem with the independents campaigning for President Uhuru's reelection but have a problem with them attending his tours. Aren't they the ones applying the Double standards?????????
